The very first thing you notice about Lotfa Resort is the white imposing apartment block with a parking the size of a football field. The Apartment architectural design is a combination of Swahili, Arabic and European design giving it an elegant finishing, which is similar to the perimeter wall and stylish wooden gates.
There is a sense of serenity, thanks to the surrounding environment. It actually feels like all your problems evaporate the very moment you step into the compound. The resort is engineered to look like an oasis in the middle of a desert thanks to the lush green palm trees around the swimming pool area.
Lotfa resort Diani is about 33 km south of Mombasa along Diani Beach road and 5 minutes drive from Ukunda Airport.
I met George Mathu, the manager, in his office right next to the reception manned by a pretty lady. When George opens his mouth you can immediately tell he is a seasoned salesman and hospitality guru. Having worked in hospitality for 32 years he has lived to see the industry go through very tough times and recover with the worst time he remembers being during the Gulf War.
Lotfa Resort offers two main types of accommodation, standard hotel rooms and furnished apartments, with a total capacity of 50 guests.
The standard rooms have a king size bed, en-suite bathrooms plus floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening to a private balcony overlooking the swimming pool plus a wall safe for safekeeping of your valuables. If you are with family there is an option of rooms with interconnected doors.
The furnished apartments have a fully stocked kitchen, comfy couches, a living room and a king-size bed plus a dining table for six set in the balcony also overlooking the pool.
The resort also offers conference facilities. During my visit, Salim Mvurya, Kwale County Governor and other county officials were holding a meeting at the premises.
The resort’s kitchen can serve up to 150 guests, with George claiming that their food is so delicious that most people still go there for lunch even when they are staying in a different hotel.
Teetotalers would love this particular resort since no alcoholic drinks are served around the area. Amateur swimmers will definitely love the swimming pool since it is only four feet deep.
What I like most about Lotfa Resort is that it is right in the middle of all the interesting things happening in Diani. Shopping malls, coolest night clubs, the beach, curio shops, airport and restaurants are all less than five minutes drive away.
The next time you are in Diani you should drop by Lotfa Resort and a have a taste of their famed meals. Don’t forget to also ride one of the numerous tuk tuk taxis, which are not only insanely cheap but also give you a pleasant experience moving around Diani.
