A few months ago, I met a top & highly-experienced African media personality I used to look up to. He said to me.
“Mark, your writing is pathetic, unprofessional & pedestrian.”
He went ahead to rubbish my art & poke holes into everything around the blog. Being the kind of person who puts all his heart into everything he does, I was discouraged and terribly hurt.
He was an expert and if he didn’t think I was good enough then who was I to dispute that? For three days, I was trying to find the right words to publicly announce my exit from the blogging sphere. It’s during this period that I reconnected with why I actually began writing.
This made realize that I may not be the best writer or have the eloquence of a wordsmith, however, I write because I want to have a positive impact on fellow youth. I made a decision to continue writing so long as it would inspire just one more person.
Thanks for your loyal readership, support & votes we won big last night. No words can express how I feel right now.
See, 13th May 2017 is 3 days after my birthday and exactly one year since I left Nation FM to concentrate on growing my blogging career. Being crowned winner of the Best Creative Writing Blog in#BAKEAwards on the 1st anniversary is absolutely unbelievable!
I dedicate this award every young person who people purporting to be experts keep telling her/him they are not good enough or their dreams are unrealistic.
Thank you so much for voting and for all the hard work you put into making this happen. I will forever be grateful to you.
